Psychiatry department lecture to feature schizophrenia expert

The MSU Department of Psychiatry is hosting its fourth Norbert B. Enzer M.D. Endowed Lectureship in Psychiatry featuring Peter F. Buckley at 5 p.m. on May 15 at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development.

Buckley, dean of the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents, is also a professor of psychiatry, pharmacology and radiology at the university. His research predominantly focuses on the neurobiology and treatment of schizophrenia, including current studies on the genetics and psychopharmacology of relapse of the disease.

He has written several books on schizophrenia and related topics in psychiatry. He has also published more than 350 original articles, book chapters, and abstracts and is a senior author of a post-graduate textbook of psychiatry. As the former chair of the National Institute of Mental Health Interventions Committee for Disorders Related to Schizophrenia, Late Life or Personality, he continues to serve as chair for other NIMH special emphasis panels.

The Enzer lectureship was established in honor of Norbert B. Enzer, former chair of MSU's Department of Psychiatry and a nationally distinguished clinician, educator and leader who has influenced the advancement of psychiatry throughout his career. This lecture brings outstanding researchers to the university to speak on the linkages between the neurobiological and psychosocial aspects of psychiatric disorders.

There is no charge to attend the event, yet seating is limited. Please RSVP by May 12 to enzer.lecturehsip@hc.msu.edu or call 517-353-8561 to reserve a seat. Light refreshments will be served.
