MSU student to lead coffee sustainability project in Nicaragua

Aniseh Bro, doctoral student in the Department of Community Sustainability, has received a Graduate Research Grant through the U.S. Borlaug Fellows in Global Food Security.

The grant program supports graduate students who are interested in building a component of their graduate research in a developing country with a mentor from an International Agricultural Research Center, or a qualifying National Agricultural Research System unit.

Awards are given to students who demonstrate a strong scientific foundation and leadership potential, propose a well-coordinated research plan that clearly articulates concepts and objectives that are innovative and feasible and demonstrate a commitment to international development.

Emphasis is placed on projects that are interdisciplinary, but students approaching an issue through a single discipline also will be considered.

Bro plans to spend approximately six months in Nicaragua beginning in 2015 to increase sustainable coffee practices.
