MSU scholars honored for education research

Two faculty members in Michigan State University’s College of Education were honored for excellence in education research by the American Educational Research Association.

Both will be recognized at the association’s annual meeting April 5 in Philadelphia.

University Distinguished Professor Mark Reckase is receiving the E.F. Lindquist Award for lifetime achievement in the field of educational testing and measurement. Reckase is a national leader in developing psychometric theory and educational assessments. He also teaches in the Measurement and Quantitative Methods doctoral program at MSU.

Dorinda Carter Andrews, associate professor of teacher education, is receiving the AERA Scholars of Color in Education Early Career Award. The honor is presented to a scholar who, within the first decade of his or her career, has made significant contributions to the understanding of issues that disproportionately affect minority populations. Carter Andrews conducts innovative research on closing achievement gaps in schools and improving the preparation of urban teachers.

MSU’s Barbara Schneider, John A. Hannah Chair and University Distinguished Professor, is currently president of AERA and will preside over the awards ceremony.
