MSU launches capital campaign with extraordinary event

The Michigan State University community will come together this Friday, Oct. 24, for something extraordinary – a celebration to mark the beginning of the public phase of the university’s largest fundraising effort to date.

The official launch of this capital campaign will be at 5 p.m. in the Cobb Great Hall of the Wharton Center for Performing Arts.

Joining MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon will be campaign co-chairs Dolores (Dee) Cook, alumna, donor and former MSU Board of Trustees member; and Bob Skandalaris, donor and founder and CEO of Quantum Ventures of Michigan. An exciting new 8-figure gift will be announced at the event.

Titled “Thy Praises MSU,” the event will feature music commissioned for the occasion written by Tony Award-winning composer and arranger and MSU alumnus William David Brohn. The MSU Symphony Orchestra and the 100-member University Chorale and State Singers will take part.

A mix of student and faculty stories, some projected on a high-definition screen wider than a basketball court, will glimpse at a bright future for MSU. A host of Spartan dignitaries also will be on hand, including men’s Head Basketball Coach Tom Izzo.

Earlier this week, MSU announced who will be heading up the campaign, including members of the President’s Campaign Cabinet.
