MSU Board of Trustees roundup

At its April 22 meeting, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees adopted new room-and-board rates for the 2014-15 academic year.

Under the rates, students living in on-campus residence halls will see their rates increased by 3.95 percent.

However, for the fourth consecutive year rates for students living in the Spartan Village on-campus apartments will not see a rate increase. Also, the monthly rate at University Village will increase 2.2 percent, or a total of $15 per person.

Following are other actions taken by the board at its April 22 meeting.

  • The appointment of June Pierce Youatt as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs was approved. See story here.
  • The board approved the appointment of Steven Hanson as associate provost and dean of International Studies and Programs.
  • A new name for the practice field used by the MSU Spartan Marching Band was approved by the board. The practice space will be the Forest Akers Trust Practice Complex and the Ed and Wanda Eichler Family Teaching Tower and Gallery. See story here.
  • The board authorized the administration to proceed with renovations to the nursing care unit of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
  • Authorization to plan for a new Horticulture Gardens Welcome Center was approved by the board.
  • In addition, 35 students received the Board of Trustees’ Award for having the highest grade point average at the close of their last semester at MSU. All 35 students earned a 4.0 GPA. See story here.
