Logistics receives innovation award

University Services Logistics has been granted the “2014 Outstanding Innovation Award” by the University Materials Management Roundtable. UMMR, a group of supply chain colleagues from several peer universities, recognized Logistics for the work done to re-engineer and optimize the university’s cross-docking operation.

Many of the goods that were once delivered directly to campus offices are now combined at Central Receiving and distributed by Logistics. The transformation in the model is in alignment with President Simon’s Bolder by Design imperatives and supports University Services’ objectives of mitigating risk, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving institutional effectiveness.

As noted in the letter from the UMMR Innovation Committee, “Several worthy programs were nominated and evaluated this year but MSU’s Logistics optimization stood out as a clear front-runner.”

In the first quarter of the fiscal year, Logistics made 44,531 deliveries to campus with an on-time rate of 99.1 percent.
