Demmer Center to celebrate Olympic Day

On June 28, the spirit of the Olympic Movement will roll into Lansing, as the Demmer Center at MSU hosts a fun family event in celebration of Olympic Day.

Opening torch ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a triathlon which includes running, archery and air rifle. Archery and air pistol events will also be available for family participation. Youth can take part in any or all events, in addition to shooting dinosaurs with crossbows, curling, shot put, discus and javelin. Visit demmercenter.msu.edu for event times.

“We are excited to take part in Olympic Day and inspire kids in the Lansing community,” said USA Archery and Demmer Center coach Glen Bennett. “The Demmer Center is proud to support the Olympic Movement and encourage children to lead healthy, active lives.”

The Demmer Center event is one of more than 700 taking place nationwide between June 14 and 30. The events, designed to engage youth and promote the ideals of the Olympic movement, feature athlete appearances, family-friendly activities and interactive learning experiences.

Around the world, more than 160 countries take part in the annual celebration. Olympic Day, created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, focuses on the Olympic values and ideals such as fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship.
