'Xanadu' rounds out MSU Department of Theatre’s 2013 season

MSU’s Department of Theatre presents its final production of 2013 with the musical “Xanadu.” This production is in collaboration with the Lansing Derby Vixens, Lansing’s premier women’s flat-track roller derby league, and is the department’s first production in the New Studio 60 Theatre.

“Xanadu” offers a unique mash up of Greek mythology, 1970s pop culture and roller skating. The musical selection includes some of Electric Light Orchestra’s greatest hits, along with the score of the 1980 movie version of “Xanadu.” While the musical is a light-hearted satire of the 1980 film, it also tells the story of a discouraged artist inspired by ancient Greek muses.

“Xanadu” is directed by Rob Roznowski, MSU professor, and is produced and presented by the MSU Department of Theatre. Catch the director pre-show discussion at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13. There will also be a post-show discussion following the performance on Nov. 19.

Performances will be held Nov. 15-17 and 19-24 in the New Studio 60 Theatre. Show times are 8 p.m. and midnight Nov. 15, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Nov. 16, 2 p.m. Nov. 17, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19-21, 8 p.m. Nov. 22, 2 and 8 p.m. Nov. 23 and 2 p.m. Nov. 24.
