The Michigan State hockey team's first four games of the 2013-14 season will be a part of the inaugural Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge. The Spartans' opening series on Oct. 18-19 at Massachusetts will be a part of the competition, as will their home games against UMass Lowell on Oct. 25 and vs. Boston University on Oct. 26.
