Panel to commemorate two-year anniversary of Japan disasters

To commemorate the two-year anniversary of the March 2011 triple disasters in Japan, a panel presentation featuring various speakers will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. March 18 in room 303 of the International Center.

The panel includes the Honorable Kuninori Matsuda, consul general of Japan in Detroit; Kazuya Fujita, MSU professor of geological sciences; and Ethan Segal, MSU associate professor of history. The speakers will explore the science behind the tsunami and earthquake and provide information on continued seismic activity in the region. It will then turn to rebuilding and reconstruction efforts; the aftermath of the nuclear power plant crisis; government aid and support; and the social, economic and political changes that remain for affected communities.

The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in room 302 of the International Center.
