Elise Toups and Jordan Taylor win 2013 MSU Student Art Competition

The MSU Libraries held a reception April 22 to honor Elise Toups and Jordan Taylor, this year’s winners of the MSU Libraries Student Art Competition.

Each will receive a $500 prize, provided by the Irene B. Arens Endowment in Support of Student Art. Their winning paintings are now on view in the Main Library.

Elise Toups is a master’s degree candidate in studio art who will be graduating in May 2014. Her painting, “Tomo Takeover,” expresses her admiration for a classmate, Tomo Kobayashi, who finished her MFA in ceramics last year.

The second winner, Taylor Jordan, will be graduating next month with a BA in studio art and Japanese. Her painting is called “Immersion” and is part of a series of work inspired by maps of places she has lived, worked, or traveled.

The Student Art Competition is funded from the Irene B. Arens Endowment in Support of Student Art, which was established with a generous gift from Irene Arens.
