In recognition of his exemplary service and leadership in the U.S. Army, Brig. Gen. Arthur Austin Jr. was recently inducted into the Spartan Battalion Hall of Fame.
He’s only the 14th Michigan State University alumnus to earn such distinction.
Austin began his military career as an enlisted soldier in 1977 and was commissioned through the MSU Army ROTC Program in 1982. Throughout the course of his 30-year military career, he has served in a variety of command and staff positions, including platoon leader, tactical intelligence officer and battalion commander.
Currently serving as the deputy commander of the 46th Military Police Command, Michigan Army National Guard, Austin is the primary assistant to the commander. He supports all activities in the command while facilitating strategic objectives and policies to ensure effective and efficient accomplishment of command missions, said Lt. Col. Bill Parker, chairperson of MSU’s Department of Military Science.
“The Spartan Battalion Hall of Fame is for graduates whose exemplary service, superior leadership and dedication to duty bring great credit to MSU and the U.S. Army,” he said. “Considering how long the Spartan Battalion has been at MSU, this is quite an elite group.”
