Sparkling wine production conference to take place July 16-19

The 37th annual American Society for Enology and Viticulture/Eastern Section conference and symposium July 16-19 in Traverse City will feature the International Symposium on Sparkling Wine Production.

The conference will start July 16 with an all-day tour of northwestern Michigan's grape and wine industry to introduce participants to this growing industry in the state.

Paolo Sabbatini, MSU assistant professor of viticulture, has invited national and international viticulture experts in sparkling grape production to be part of the conference’s symposium. Their discussion will focus on vineyard management practices that affect the quality of grapes, focusing on the main enological parameters — including the phenolic, volatile and nitrogen compounds and sensory quality.

In addition to the tour and sparkling wine symposium, the conference will offer educational sessions, a grazing dinner and entertainment.

The conference and symposium are open to anyone in the grape and wine industry. For more information, go here.
