MSU wins award for 'moving' program

Michigan State University has been awarded for an effort to make physical fitness a key feature of campus culture.

The Midwest American College of Sports Medicine presented its 2012 Active U award to the MSU Moves Me program. The award recognizes the most creative and sustainable program for making physical activity an integral part of personal health care.

MSU Moves Me encourages participants to maintain or increase physical activity, both individually and as a campus. Students, faculty, staff, retirees and spouses have access to a customized online fitness tracking system to help them participate in personal, team and all-campus challenge events. The 2012 program ran from late January to early March.

“The MSU Moves Me initiative is committed to producing a culture of health one step at a time,” said Dennis Martell, health education coordinator for Olin Student Health Center. “We’re really pleased with this recognition and as a community of partners we look forward to keeping people moving in 2013.”

MSU Moves Me is a partnership between the University Physician’s Office Health4U program, Olin Student Health Services and Recreation Sports and Fitness Services.
