Staff profiles: Jennifer New
Jennifer New has been involved with Michigan State University in some capacity since 2004.
New started off as a professor's aide, then attended graduate school and ultimately settled into her current position as academic adviser. New has been in this role for the past four years.
As an advisor, New works with students majoring in communication and also with those interested in a sales communication specialization. She helps students plan their schedules, ensure they meet all their degree requirements and directs them to different resources.
New also is the study abroad coordinator for the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. She acts as the resource for every student in the college who is interested in studying abroad, helping them choose a program that fits their interests and their degree requirements. Ultimately, New is the liaison between students and the Office of Study Abroad.
"I would say the best part of my job is seeing these students succeed and reach their goals - it all accumulates in graduation," New said. "You know that you've been helping them for the past four years, being an engaged participant in their education."
