Staff Profiles: Jeff Daniels

The Michigan State University homepage, www.msu.edu, is a site most students, faculty and staff have interaction with almost every day. Jeff Daniels helps design web applications like the MSU homepage, and also designs other web applications for research projects.

A typical day for Daniels, an information technologist with Academic Technology Services, is spent in front of a computer designing. In broad terms, he designs web applications for the university, but more specifically his job has two main parts.

First, Daniels helps design the core MSU site, www.msu.edu, and sub-sites like “Search.” He has been working on the homepage for ten years and has seen the site through three redesigns.

The second part of Daniels’ job is that he designs web elements for departments and professor that require a web element for their research projects.

“It makes it really interesting because we never know what’s going to come in the door,” Daniels said.
