Faculty conversations: Sanjay Gupta

With tax season in full swing, Sanjay Gupta, chairperson of Accounting and Information Systems at MSU, discusses how the accounting program is tailored to educate students in ethics, independence and accountability.

With the fraudulent cases of Enron and Arthur Andersen making national headlines in recent years, making the best judgment as an accountant is a common theme woven through the curriculum.

“The events of the past have only energized the significance of this profession,” Gupta said. “People have begun to think about the profession as more meaningful than they might have in the past. Michigan State is devoted to making sure that our curriculum will provide the foundation to the students to be able to exercise their judgment and to discharge their responsibilities as a professional accountant in the best way possible.”
