Michigan State University today welcomed its 21st president, Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D.
Stanley was unanimously selected May 28 by the MSU Board of Trustees after a nationwide search.
He most recently served as the fifth president of Stony Brook University, another leading research university, since July 1, 2009. Known as a respected researcher, leader and educator, Stanley looks to build on MSU’s land-grant mission of delivering the promise of opportunity to its students and producing groundbreaking, life-changing research.
“I am proud to join the Spartan community,” said Stanley. “MSU is a university with the scope and scale that few others possess. We provide extraordinary opportunities for learning, partnering and discovering solutions to prepare the next generation of citizens, scientists and leaders and to make a better Michigan and world.”
Stanley’s first days will be filled with orientations, introductions and meetings.
He will live at Cowles House once renovations are complete in early 2020.
