MSU Union post office to close in Dec.

After careful financial consideration and evaluation of usage, the MSU Union has determined it must close its post office, effective Friday, Dec. 14.

The United States Postal Service has had a presence within the MSU Union for almost 45 years, and the current configuration has been open for six years. Unfortunately, the expenses have far exceeded the income over the past six years.

MSU’s Residential and Hospitality Services is committed to staying fiscally responsible and providing services that enhance the student experience and encourage student success within the MSU Union. They will continue to seek out new opportunities to support students and community members. Current offerings include the following:
• Biggby Coffee
• Mosiac: The Multicultural Unity Center
• MSU’s Counseling and Psychiatric Services
• MSU Federal Credit Union
• MSU Union Food Court
• MSU Dairy Store
• North Neighborhood Engagement Center
• Spartan Lanes
• Spartan Spirit Shop
• University Activities Board
• Rental space for Registered Student Organizations
• Study space

The Union is looking into what mail service alternatives they can provide once the post office is closed. Post offices nearest to campus include the East Lansing location on Abbot Road and the Lansing location on Collins Road. There are also Fedex Office and UPS Store locations close to campus, and University Stores and many local businesses sell postage.

Current residence hall and apartment residents are able to drop off packages and mail at their service desks, provided they have the proper postage or mailing labels already attached.

The MSU Union is thankful for everyone’s patronage to the MSU Union’s post office over the years.
