Ten exceptional senior students have been named to the 2017-18 Homecoming Court.
The students, who were endorsed by an individual or an organization, were chosen through a very selective process.
Referred to as “ambassadors,” the students were evaluated based on leadership, community involvement, academic excellence and Spartan pride. A group of MSU faculty, staff, alumni and students conducted interviews to select the final 10 court ambassadors.
“The court is incredibly diverse in experiences and background,” said Natisha Foster, Homecoming Court adviser. “They represent the brightest and most talented Spartans. I am excited and honored to work with this year’s Homecoming Court.”
The students will begin their duties this summer representing the MSU student body at various alumni, community and university engagements.
“Servant leaders stay behind the scenes and keep the show running,” said 2017-18 ambassador Mariah Hill. “At some point, they will be recognized for what they do. Sometimes we humble or discredit ourselves, but we deserve to advocate for ourselves while still serving others. Homecoming ambassadors are allowed to do just that.
"Also, this opportunity will allow me to focus my energy on sharing my Spartan experiences and exchanging resources with others. Through this whole process, I will be able to learn so much more about the future, alumni, myself and MSU.”
The ambassadors will continue their Homecoming Court commitment through the 2017-18 school year. During homecoming week, Oct. 15-21, ambassadors will attend many functions including the parade on Oct. 20 and the football game on Oct. 21.
The 2017-18 court includes:
Yixi (Vicky) Dong of Sichuan, China. She is majoring in nursing in the College of Nursing and minoring in psychology in the College of Social Science.
Natalie Gotko of Rochester. She is majoring in both marketing and professional writing in the Eli Broad College of Business and the College of Arts and Letters. She is a member of the Honors College.
Mariah Hill of Detroit. She is majoring in special education-language arts in the College of Education.
Sahar Khan of Dearborn. She is majoring in chemistry in the College of Natural Science.
Brittany Lane of Muskegon. She is majoring in human development and family studies in the College of Social Science and minoring in pre-medicine/pharmacology and toxicology in the College of Natural Science.
Shuning Liu of Guiyang, China. She is majoring in applied engineering sciences in the College of Engineering.
Jacob Markovicz of Grand Haven. He is majoring in physiology and minoring in bioethics, humanities and society in Lyman Briggs College.
Makaila Marshall of Sylvania, Ohio. She is majoring in communication in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and minoring in cognitive science in the College of Arts and Letters.
Quinlan Wetzel of Powell, Wyoming. He is majoring in finance in the Eli Broad College of Business. He is a member of the Honors College.
Colin White of Okemos. He is majoring in applied engineering sciences in the College of Engineering and minoring in supply chain management in the Eli Broad College of Business. He is a member of the Honors College.
