John Mohyi, a Michigan State University law student and CEO of Mohyi Labs, was selected as a 2016 Collegiate Inventors Competition Graduate Finalist for his invention of the bladeless drone.
CIC is a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame and has been honoring and awarding college innovators for 25 years. Mohyi is among the 11 finalist teams that will have the opportunity to present their inventions to a panel of final round judges, competing for more than $100,000 in cash prizes.
The panel comprises the nation’s most influential inventors and invention experts, including National Inventors Hall of Fame inductees, United States Patent and Trademark Office experts and AbbVie scientists. Entries will be showcased at the CIC Expo in November.
Mohyi Labs is a product development company focused on creating a bladeless drone. Featured on “America’s Greatest Makers” on TBS, Mohyi’s patent-pending propulsion technology has the potential to revolutionize the consumer drone industry and operate in both the air and aquatic environments.

Mohyi graduated with honors from Wayne State University in 2011, earning bachelor’s degrees in both economics and psychology. He founded or co-founded three companies in addition to Mohyi Labs, including Black Ice Beverages LLC, Michigan Central Station Preservation Society and American Organ Foundation.
