Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theater Company is a nationally recognized performance company that has been co-directed by Stuart Pimsler and Suzanne Costello since its inception in 1979. Having presented at The Kennedy Center, Central Park’s SummerStage, Jacob’s Pillow, Guthrie Theater and elsewhere around the globe, the company continues their 35th anniversary season by performing at Wharton Center Jan. 23.
Known for its ability to situate highly physical, emotional vocabulary within stunning theatrical landscapes, the company creates poetic stories focused on love, loss and the need for connection. While performing a program of politically and socially relevant repertory, Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theater Company will bring newer performance pieces such as Singing, Walking, and Other Habits and At It Again in addition to the critically acclaimed works of The Men From the Boys and the 2008 SAGE Award Winner for Outstanding Choreography, Ways to Be Hold.
Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theater Company is known for its compelling, poignant performances and has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts for “Best Practices” in the field of Arts and Healthcare. Their Transforming the Doctor-Patient Relationship workshop, piloted at Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, integrates the arts through storytelling and non-verbal exercise that bring about discussions of ethical issues between doctors and patients.
In conjunction with their performance, Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theater Company will be holding workshops with MSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine Jan. 17-19, and with MSU Department of Theatre on Jan. 21.
