Mid-Michigan families have the opportunity to learn about farms and farm animals and participate in hands-on activities at Small Animals Day April 21. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the MSU Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education.
"Small Animals Day is an opportunity for the public, particularly families and children, to come to campus and experience agriculture from a hands-on point of view," said Dorcia Chaison, assistant director of undergraduate programs in the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. "We want the event to be fun but to also give visitors the chance to learn about the variety and numerous components of agriculture and the environment."
Visitors can milk a cow, watch horse races, hold a baby chick and meet other animals. MSU CANR student club members will be on site providing additional education. No farm tours will be given this year.
Admission is $2 for adults and children 1 year old or older. No pre-registration is required. All participants should park at the Pavilion on Farm Lane.
