A visiting scholar will give a presentation about microwave technology for food safety March 21.
G. Malcolm Trout Visiting Scholar Juming Tang will present "Microwave Technology for Food Safety — The Path from Research to FDA Approval" at 4 p.m. March 21 in 1135 Anthony Hall.
Tang is a professor of biological systems engineering at Washington State University.
The presentation will give an historic perspective on the development of microwave sterilization/pasteurization technologies and provide an overview of the multi-disciplinary research activities at WSU that span from engineering design based on computer simulation to microbial validation of food safety in support of FDA approval of the technology for final commercial production of safe military rations and civilian foods.
The presentation, which is sponsored by MSU's Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, is part of the 2011-2012 FSHN Spring Seminar Series.
