Free webcast on food security offered Sept. 10

As global metropolitan populations increase, insufficient food production, unsustainable agricultural practices and other economic hardships threaten food security–or access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food–in these regions.

Individuals who would like to take part in a discussion about addressing this topic can join a free, live webcast on food security offered by the Michigan State University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at 11 a.m. Sept. 10.

"Bio Intensive Agriculture and Food Security" will focus on a project to provide access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to a community in South Africa. It will be presented by Michael Leech, a horticulturist and doctoral student of urban agriculture in municipal environments in Durban, South Africa.

During the webcast Leech will provide an overview of a food security project in his community. He will discuss the challenges and successes in developing a community garden and share strategies for incorporating sustainable practices.

Anyone interested in this topic is encouraged to join the webcast. Registration is not required. For details, go here.
