EAST LANSING, Mich. — Marsha D. Rappley, dean of Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, has been appointed chair-elect for the Association of American Medical Colleges' Council of Deans.
Rappley will begin her new role in November. She has served as dean of the College of Human Medicine since September 2006, becoming the first graduate of the college to hold the position. She is a practicing pediatrician and has achieved a national reputation for her research and clinical work in developmental and behavioral pediatrics.
Rappley serves on the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the accrediting body for U.S. medical schools granting the M.D. degree. She also is a member of the Advisory Panel on Research for the Association of American Medical Colleges Council of Deans. She is past chair of the Pediatric Advisory Commission for the Food and Drug Administration and completed a term on the American Board of Pediatrics, Subspecialty Board.
The Council of Deans of the Association of American Medical Colleges focuses on the continuing improvement of the nation's medical schools. As an association of deans of medical schools, the council represents the deans of all medical schools (MD) in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. It identifies issues affecting academic medicine and develops strategies to achieve the various missions of medical schools
