Traffic advisory: Homecoming parade to close Grand River Avenue through East Lansing

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The following traffic advisory will help motorists avoid backups during the MSU Homecoming “We’ve Always Been Green” Parade at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.

Please note that there is a new parade route this year. The parade will begin at the intersection of Abbot Road and Burcham Drive at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, travel south on Abbot Road, east on Grand River, south on Collingwood, south on Farm Lane and conclude at the corner of Farm and Shaw.

Grand River Avenue between Abbot Road and Collingwood Drive will be closed from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m.

These East Lansing streets and their intersections will be closed at the following times Friday:

  • Burcham Drive between Old Hickory Lane and Abbot Road from 4-6:15 p.m.
  • Abbot Road between Whitehills Drive and Burcham Drive from 4-7 p.m.
  • Abbot Road between Burcham Drive and Grand River Avenue from 5:45-7:15 p.m.
  • Grand River Avenue between Abbot Road and Collingwood Drive entrance from 5:45-7:30 p.m.

These streets near the East Lansing Hannah Community Center also will be closed:

  • Centerlawn Avenue from Forest Street to Abbot Road from 4-7 p.m. for parade staging
  • Northlawn Street from Forest Street to Abbot Road from 4-7 p.m. for parade staging
  • Evergreen Avenue from Centerlawn Avenue to Northlawn Street from 4-7 p.m. for parade staging

Other important street closures in East Lansing:

  • All roads southbound off Albert Avenue between Durand Street and Abbot Road
  • Roads leading to Abbot Road (Library Lane, Burcham Drive, Centerlawn Avenue and Northlawn Street)
