Traffic advisory: Homecoming parade to close Grand River Avenue through East Lansing

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Unless they’re driving floats, motorists may want to know how to get around Michigan State University’s 2008 Homecoming Parade.

 

The following traffic advisory will help motorists avoid traffic backups or find a parking spot during the MSU Homecoming “Go for the Green” Parade at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3.

 

Grand River Avenue between Abbot Road and Bogue Street will be closed from 5:20 to 7 p.m.

 

The East Lansing High School homecoming parade, which steps off at 5:30 p.m., will head west on Burcham Drive and meet up with the MSU parade. The ELHS parade will follow the MSU parade until Bailey Street, where it will head north to the high school to finish its route.

 

Bailey Street will close from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.

 

Abbot Road between Burcham Drive and Whitehills Drive will be closed at 4 p.m.

 

All other road closings and detours will be in effect Oct. 3 from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

 

DOWNTOWN EAST LANSING ROAD CLOSINGS

 

EASTBOUND TRAFFIC 

  • Michigan Avenue eastbound from Harrison Road to Grand River Avenue.
  • Grand River Avenue eastbound from Harrison Road to Hagadorn Road. 

WESTBOUND TRAFFIC

  • Grand River Avenue westbound from Hagadorn Road to Harrison Road. 

GENERAL ROAD CLOSINGS INFORMATION 

  • All roads southbound off of Albert Avenue between Durand Street and Abbot Road will be closed.
  • The northbound and southbound lanes of Abbot Road from Grand River Avenue to Whitehills Drive will be closed.
  • All roads leading to Abbot Road, including Library Road, Burcham Drive, Centerlawn Avenue and Northlawn Avenue, will be closed.
  • All roads on MSU's campus leading north to Grand River Avenue will be closed.
  • The southbound lanes of Bogue Street to Shaw Lane will be closed during the parade.

RECOMMENDED TRAFFIC DETOURS 

  • The following detours will help motorists avoid traffic delays related to the parade.

Motorists are advised to avoid using Grand River Avenue.

 

WESTBOUND GRAND RIVER AVENUE TRAFFIC WILL BE DETOURED TO:

  • Hagadorn Road northbound to Saginaw Street.

Or

  • Hagadorn Road southbound to Mount Hope Road.

EASTBOUND MICHIGAN AVENUE TRAFFIC WILL BE DETOURED TO:

  • Harrison Road northbound to Saginaw Street.

OR

  • Harrison Road southbound to Mount Hope Road.

EASTBOUND GRAND RIVER AVENUE TRAFFIC WILL BE DETOURED TO:

  • Harrison Road northbound to Saginaw Street.

OR

  • Harrison Road southbound to Mount Hope Road. 

Traffic traveling east or west can avoid Grand River Avenue by taking Mount Hope Road, Saginaw Street, Lake Lansing Road or Interstate 96. 

  • Enter campus from the south to avoid Grand River Avenue traffic.
  • Park at the southern commuter lots near the MSU Clinical Center and at Farm Lane and Mount Hope Road and use the CATA bus to get to Munn Ice Arena or the Wharton Center.
  • Park at Meridian Mall or Frandor Mall and use the CATA bus system to get to campus.
