Record-breaking capital campaign grows opportunity and excellence
Oct. 19, 2018

Hundreds of thousands of donors worldwide who believe in the purpose and possibility of Michigan State University came together to make the Empower Extraordinary capital campaign a record-breaking success, raising more than $1.7 billion.

This milestone was reached through the combined generosity of alumni and friends, with support from donors exceeding goals in each campaign focus area. The significant impact of the campaign’s success already is transforming the lives of students, increasing research capacity, improving facilities and attracting the best and brightest faculty to MSU.

“We are proud that so many donors are invested in helping Michigan State continue to be an engine of opportunity for students and a force for discovery, creativity and learning in our world,” says Interim President John Engler. “I believe MSU is poised to find solutions to the biggest challenges facing us, and we are thankful for donor support that is helping to turn our potential into reality.”

In addition to gifts in the form of pledges or charitable bequests, more than $1 billion already has been received and put to work funding student scholarships, graduate fellowships, faculty research, building projects and other programs and initiatives.
