MSU student wins Statler Foundation award

Stephen Dall’Orso, a senior hospitality business student, has earned the Statler Foundation Scholarship of Excellence – marking the sixth year in a row a student from Michigan State University has been named as a recipient.

The scholarship is given to outstanding students who are enrolled fulltime in a hotel management program and plan to pursue careers in the hospitality industry. Dall’Orso’s award is in the amount of $20,000 for tuition, books and fees for the 2017-18 academic year.

“Winning this award means that my continued efforts to the hospitality industry have not gone unnoticed and means there is much more to come,” Dall’Orso said.

Dall’Orso is a student supervisor for MSU Culinary Services, a teaching assistant for an advanced hospitality finance course and served as an intern for Geller Capital Partners in Chicago over the summer.

The Statler Foundation was established from the estate of hotelier Ellsworth Statler in 1928, “for research work for the benefit of the hotel industry of the United States, not only in the construction and operation of hotels, but in the training and making more proficient the workers in hotels, for the benefit of the hotel industry as a whole.”
