The Michigan State University College of Music will host A Jazzy Little Christmas, the 10th annual Professors of Jazz concert, at 8 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the Fairchild Theatre in the MSU Auditorium. The performance will fuse modern jazz tunes with Christmas classics.

The Professors of Jazz ensemble comprises MSU College of Music jazz faculty members. The ensemble performs together several times a year at benefits, clinics and concert halls.

The concert includes popular renditions of holiday favorites specially arranged for jazz, as well as some of the jazz professors’ own improvisational twists.

“My fellow musicians and I love putting this program together,” said Rodney Whitaker, director of jazz studies and bassist for the group. “Every song holds some special memories for us, and we look forward to performing and celebrating the season with our community of jazz patrons.”

The concert is a part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Showcase Series and is sponsored by Craig and Lisa Murray, Wolverine Development Corp. and Joseph Maguire.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors (age 60 and older) and $10 for students with ID and anyone under 18. Tickets may be purchased online, by phone, in person or at the door.
