MSU Music celebrates Mozart’s birthday

Michigan State University’s College of Music and the Joanne and Bill Church West Circle Series will host the seventh annual Happy Birthday Mozart! celebration at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at Fairchild Theatre.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, born Jan. 27, 1756, in Salzburg, Austria, quickly became known as a child prodigy. He grew up performing for sophisticated crowds and eventually he became famous for his compositions, which included small chamber works, symphonies and operas.

Concert works include Mozart’s “Sonata for Keyboard Four-hands in B-flat major, K. 358/186c;” “Sonata for Piano and Violin in G major, K. 301;” “Piano Trio in G major, K. 564;” and “Serenade in C minor, K. 388/384a,” with conductor Kevin Sedatole, director of MSU bands. Also set to perform are the following students: Ben Buergel, oboe; Andrew Dodson, horn; and Hannah Reilly, bassoon.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (age 60 and older), $5 for students with ID and anyone under age 18, and can be purchased online, in the music office via phone at (517) 353-5340 or in person in Room 102, Music Building, 333 W. Circle Drive, East Lansing, or at the door, when still available.
