With continual growth in top faculty and a strong reputation for research excellence, the communication program in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences grabbed second place in ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.
“The best faculty apply here and the best students follow them,” said Jim Dearing, chairperson of the Department of Communication. “Supporting our faculty and supporting our students is what we’re doing right.”
Being a top-ranked program is nothing new for the department. It has scored highly in many rankings and studies of academic departments over the years.
“We are sustaining a high level of performance,” said Dearing. “It’s very high within the discipline, but also in terms of the subject rankings on our own campus. We’re tied for second best among all MSU departments.”
With increasing productivity and popular new courses, Dearing is confident the program will be a strong contender for the top spot next year.
