Debate team to host National Debate Tournament qualifiers

The Michigan State University debate team will host and participate in the National Debate Tournament District 5 Qualifier Feb. 17-18 at Wells Hall.

A series of debates will run from 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

MSU will host teams from universities throughout Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, including the University of Michigan, Northwestern University, Indiana University, Wayne State University and others. The district tournament determines which teams qualify for the 71st National Debate Tournament, which will be held at the University of Kansas in late March.

“We are thrilled to be hosting and competing in the District 5 Qualifier on our own campus this year,” said Debate Head Coach Will Repko. “These students have worked very hard to prepare for this and we are looking forward to seeing how we measure up to the other schools.”

The MSU debate team is a part of the Honors College.
