The ninth annual Help Tackle Hunger Food Drive is underway continuing its support of the MSU Student Food Bank. The food drive takes place through April 23, and is made possible through the partnership of MSU’s Division of Residential and Hospitality Services and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The MSU Student Food Bank is a founding member of the College and University Food Bank Alliance and was the first food bank run by students, for students, when it opened in 1993.
“For many years, the MSU Student Food Bank has helped support members of our community in need,” says Bill Kost, associate director of Retail Food Services. “The food bank distributes more than 50,000 pounds of food to more than 4,700 students annually in large part due to charitable donations.”
Monetary donations, which are 100 percent tax deductible, are being collected now through Saturday, April 23, at any Sparty’s location on campus and all quick service restaurants within the MSU Union Food Court. During the Green-White Game on April 23, monetary donations can also be given at all concessions stands that are open during the event.
Food donations can be dropped off at all MSU Federal Credit Union branches in the Greater Lansing area.
“Unfortunately, hunger does exist within the MSU community. The Help Take Hunger Food Drive provides Spartans with an opportunity to make a difference by helping to restock the shelves of our MSU Student Food Bank,” said Vennie Gore, vice president for Auxiliary Enterprises at MSU. “I believe in the power of community and so whether on or off campus, I ask the entire Spartan and adjacent communities to join us in the fight to end hunger.”
“Through the Help Tackle Hunger Food Drive, Spartans have the opportunity to change lives by showing support for their neighbors in need,” said Vennie Gore, vice president for Auxiliary Enterprises at MSU. “Sadly, hunger is still a challenge members of our community face. Whether on or off campus, I ask the entire Spartan and adjacent communities to join us in restocking the shelves of the MSU Student Food Bank.”
