Sharper Focus/Wider Lens event to feature past and future of Flint

The Honors College will host its 23rd installment of Sharper Focus/Wider Lens with "Looking at Flint: The Past, Present and Future of the City" at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in the MSU Union Ballroom.

The event will feature a trans-disciplinary discussion among MSU faculty and staff that explores the local government’s finances, the water crisis and its solutions, news media coverage of the city and how community members are positioning the city for the future. An audience Q&A session will follow.

Speakers include:

  • Mary Schulz, associate director of the MSU Extension Center for Local Government Finance and Policy, and outreach specialist in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics
  • Debra Furr-Holden, professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  • Rick Sadler, assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine
  • Manuel Chavez, associate professor in the School of Journalism
  • Trixie Smith, director of The Writing Center and assistant professor in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures

Individuals who cannot attend are encouraged to watch the MSU Alumni Association’s livestream of the event at http://livestream.com/msualumni. All Sharper Focus/Wider Lens events are free and open to the public.
