Oberlin Baroque Ensemble to perform at MSU

Michigan State University College of Music welcomes the Oberlin Baroque Ensemble for a guest artist concert at 8 p.m. on Jan. 29 in MSU Auditorium’s Fairchild Theatre.

The performance will showcase a variety of 17th- and 18th-century repertoire from Italy, England and Germany, and will feature MSU’s Robert Duffy harpsichord. This performance is the second of the three concerts in the inaugural Taylor Johnston Early Music Series.

The Oberlin Baroque Ensemble comprises Oberlin Conservatory faculty members who are part of the Historical Performance Department. Each member of the ensemble performs on period instruments to create an authentic sound that gives the audience a chance to experience how the music of composers such as Bach, Corelli and Handel sounded at the time their works were written.

“This ensemble offers a unique and rare experience to hear baroque music as it was meant to sound and is truly a wonderful opportunity for the East Lansing community,” said David Rayl, professor of music.
