Michigan State University is hosting a GeoCache for College Cash event from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 21 in Human Ecology Room 300 as part of Michigan’s Money Smart Week campaign. A chance for students to win up to $2,500 in college expense assistance and other prizes, GeoCache for College Cash at MSU is one of more than 4,000 free financial programs taking place nationally during Money Smart Week 2016.
The event will feature a GeoCache poster contest; snacks; interactive games to test financial literacy; and informational exhibits by MSU Federal Credit Union, MSU Extension, the department of Human Development and Family Studies, MSU Libraries and City of Lansing Financial Empowerment Center.
Prizes include a chance at $1,000 statewide college expense assistance award from Ally Financial, two $500 statewide college expense assistance award from the JumpStart Coalition, gift cards to local businesses, a Mark Dantonio autographed football and more. One MSU student is guaranteed to win a $500 scholarship from the HDFS department at MSU.
Money Smart Week is a national public awareness campaign to promote financial education across all age groups and all knowledge levels. The MSU GeoCache for College Cash event will include topics such as: managing student debt, avoiding identity theft, using debit and credit cards wisely, understanding auto financing, successful budgeting and improving your credit score.
