Michigan State University professor of chemistry Xuefei Huang, has been selected to receive the Melville L. Wolfrom Award from the American Chemical Society. The award acknowledges outstanding service to the ACS Carbohydrate Division and to the field of carbohydrate chemistry.
“This is a tremendous honor not only to me but also to all my present and past group members. It is a testament to all the hard work and dedication we put into research,” said Huang, whose research focuses on organic chemistry, synthetic chemistry, nanoscience and immunology.
"It is wonderful to see Professor Huang selected for this award,” said Rob Maleczka, chair of MSU’s Department of Chemistry in the College of Natural Science. “As a past chair of the ACS Carbohydrate Division, an editor of leading carbohydrate journals, and one of the top carbohydrate chemists in the world, Xuefei embodies the full spirit of Melville L. Wolfrom and the award that bears his name. All of MSU should be proud to have such a respected and valuable colleague.”
The Wolfrom Award will be formally presented to Huang at the 253rd ACS National Meeting and Exposition in April 2017.
He also won the ACS Carbohydrate Division Horace S. Isbell Award in 2011, and was named an ACS Fellow in 2013.
Huang received his B.S. from the University of Science and Technology of China and his Ph.D. from Columbia University. He was an associate professor at the University of Toledo prior to joining the MSU faculty in 2008.
