The field of digital humanities has developed to include a range of disciplines and locations across the globe.
In recognition of the growing field, Michigan State University will host the Global Digital Humanities Symposium, which runs 9 a.m. April 8 to 5:45 p.m. April 9 at the Union Building, room 55.
The symposium will include an extended workshop and a mixture of presentation types, focuses on issues of power, access and equity as they affect scholarship in the digital humanities.
Themes and topics of this symposium will include:
- The practice of digital humanities across linguistic, economic and technological divides
- Digital humanities in the light of current geopolitics
- The environmental impacts of digital humanities research
- The inflection of local accents in the practices and ethics of digital humanities
The symposium will feature a variety of local and national speakers:
- Radhika Gajjala, Bowling Green State University
- Hoyt Long, University of Chicago
- Dorothy Kim, Vassar College
- Alex Gil, Columbia University
Speakers and presenters at the symposium will address how the interdisciplinary practices of digital humanities should address the contemporary situation of our planet.
