Glew named ISP associate dean for academic programs

International Studies and Programs at Michigan State University has appointed Robert Glew as associate dean for academic programs, effective July 1.

As a core member of ISP’s leadership team, Glew will provide guidance for internationalizing university curricula, lead efforts to promote intercultural competency on campus and advance scholarship related to international programming, including study abroad, student exchanges, professional exchanges and services for international students and scholars. Glew will also serve as MSU’s primary contact for U.S. Department of Education Title VI competitions and related academic and outreach matters, including the offering of less commonly taught languages.

“With more than 25 years of experience working on issues of international development and education, Dr. Glew is a natural fit for this role,” said Steven Hanson, associate provost and dean of International Studies and Programs. “He is an unwavering advocate for international education and will provide critical leadership as we seek to become a more globally engaged university.”

Glew, who joined MSU in 1997, is director of the Center for Advanced Study of International Development and professor of international development studies. He also oversees the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program and the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program at MSU. He has taught courses on international development, cultural change, and socio-cultural diversity.

Glew earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in African languages and literature from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and has a Ph.D. in anthropology from MSU.
