Undergraduates can explore research in summer science program

Undergraduate students in their junior year who want to pursue careers in the biomedical sciences are encouraged to apply for the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Summer Undergraduate Physician-scientist Education and Research Training Program, or SUPER.

SUPER is a 10-week program that begins June 1, 2015. It gives students the opportunity to conduct research in the academic medical environment. Participants gain clinical and laboratory experience by working with MSU physician/scientists and conducting their own studies. The program also offers participants the chance to build their leadership and other professional skills, learn about careers in biomedical research and receive mentoring from DO-Ph.D. students and faculty members.

Up to six qualified undergraduate students will be selected to participate and each will receive a $2,500 stipend to put toward the program. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.5 and have a minimum of one full semester of research experience. Those with a GPA that is lower than 3.5, but have extensive research experience, are also encouraged to apply. Graduating seniors are not eligible for this opportunity.

The application deadline is March 31. Interested candidates should email the completed application form, two letters of recommendation, unofficial transcripts and a CV/resume to Justin McCormick, MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine associate dean for research and graduate studies.
