MSU College of Engineering assistant professor Richard Lunt has been awarded the 2015 Ovshinsky Sustainable Energy Fellowship, a national prize from the American Physical Society supporting research in energy sustainability.
Named for Stanford R. Ovshinsky, the award encourages the development of low-cost technologies that do not rely on fossil fuels to provide carbon-free energy to the world’s growing population.
Ovshinsky died in 2012 and is credited with a range of important developments including amorphous solar cells, digital memory, nickel-metal hydride batteries, and solid hydrogen storage. The fellowship was established in 2013 by his family in recognition of his inventive spirit and lifelong contributions toward the development of energy conversion technologies.
Lunt has won numerous awards in recent years for his work on renewable energy technologies, nanostructured devices and transparent photovoltaics and solar concentrators.
