Quiz Bowl state championship to take place at MSU

The Michigan High School Quiz Bowl State Championship will take place Friday and Saturday on the campus of Michigan State University.

The tournament is sponsored by the MSU Honors College and Meijer. Former Senate Majority Leader Dan L. DeGrow created the tournament as an annual event 28 years ago.

State Quiz Bowl consists of three simultaneously run tournaments: Class A, Class B and Class C/D.

Nearly 600 students from 72 high schools will compete. Local area high school students, including those from Haslett High School, Okemos High School, and Jackson Christian High School will compete in the tournament.

The competition is double-elimination and is open to quiz teams who have won either a league championship or major tournament at some point this season. All three championship teams have the chance to compete in other nationwide quiz bowl competitions.

Rounds Friday will run from 9:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m. Rounds run Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with the finals beginning at 3:45 p.m. All rounds will be held on the 3rd and 4th floors of the MSU Union, 49 Abbot Road, East Lansing.
