MSU Wind Symphony performs with Dali Quartet string ensemble

MSU’s Wind Symphony will perform with guest ensemble Dali Quartet – Joel Puckett’s “Short Stories, a concerto for String Quartet and Wind Ensemble” – at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall.

Puckett currently serves as composer in residence for the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras and is a faculty member at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.

“After hearing the Dali Quartet last year during the MSU Latin IS America festival, I knew that I wanted to have them back to MSU to perform Short Stories,” said Wind Symphony Conductor Kevin Sedatole, director of MSU Bands. “They play with a lot of passion and emotion. I know that they will bring all of their special musicianship to Joel’s piece.”

The Dali Quartet comprises award-winning solo and chamber artists who have appeared at Carnegie Hall, toured widely in Europe and Asia and recorded on three labels.

Admission is free for students with ID and anyone under the age of 18. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors (age 60 and older) and can be purchased online, at the College of Music box office, by calling (517) 353-5340, in person, or at the door at Wharton Center. There will be a $3 restoration fee for tickets purchased at Wharton Center, via phone, box office or the website.
