MSU presentation of 'The Vagina Monologues' runs Feb. 27-28

Michigan State University’s presentation of The Vagina Monologues opens for its 17th season this weekend at the Wharton Center.

This season, a variety of MSU and Lansing community members have been cast in the show, including The Firecracker Foundation’s own Tashmica Torok, founder of the show’s 2015 beneficiary.

This year, the goal of the show is to support The Firecracker Foundation, an up-and-coming nonprofit that provides high quality, consistent therapy to children under the age of 18 who have survived sexual trauma in the tricounty area.

“With the proceeds from show,” Torok said, “we would be in a position to provide as many as 9-10 more children with individual therapy sessions for one year or two years of yoga therapy.”

Director and MSU student Laura Swanson has high expectations for the show.

“Our ladies have worked so passionately in preparation for the show, and I couldn’t be more proud,” she said. "I’m very excited to share this event and I can’t wait to see the community come out and support us."

The Vagina Monologues will be performed on Feb. 27 and 28 at The Wharton Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets can be purchased at www.whartoncenter.com. To learn more about VDay, visit www.vday.org.
