MSU political leadership program calls for applicants

Applications for 24 leadership-training fellowships are now being accepted for MSU's Michigan Political Leadership Program.

The multi-partisan MPLP is one of only a handful of programs of its kind in the nation. It brings together community leaders, engaging them in a public-policy and leadership-education curriculum. The deadline for submitting applications is Sept. 11.

Practical politics, public policy analysis and process, personal leadership development and effective governance are the cornerstones of the program’s innovative curriculum.

“MPLP is recognized nationally for its excellence,” said Douglas Roberts, director of the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research, MPLP’s campus home.

Each fellowship is valued at approximately $12,000, supported by MSU with significant grant funding from the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation of Midland and generous contributions from Michigan associations, corporations, MPLP alumni and individuals.

MPLP began at MSU in 1992 with 24 fellows. It has since grown to more than 600 graduates, more than half of them serving in elected or appointed positions.

Applications are available online or by contacting MPLP administrator Linda Cleary by phone at (517) 353-0891or by email at clearyl@msu.edu.
