Grant to expand regional food businesses, increase food access: The MSU Center for Regional Food Systems has received a $450,000 grant from the Kresge Foundation to expand the Michigan Food Hub Network, a statewide learning community that helps food hubs become profitable while supplying healthy food to low-income communities in Michigan. Fashion as art: Jade Wiselogle is a first-generation college student with big dreams who doesn’t need to be convinced of the role a college education will play in achieving them. She says she chose MSU because it was the best option for her financially and she wanted to do everything in her power to go to a Big Ten school. More >>

Smart phone not a smart choice when facing depression: Depressed people who turn to their smart phones for relief may only be making things worse. A team of researchers, that included the dean of Michigan State University’s College of Communication Arts and Sciences, found that people who substitute electronic interaction for the real-life human kind find little if any satisfaction. 4. Husband, wife team making a big impact on study of little animals: For a combined 105 years, Richard Snider, a professor of integrative biology, and Renate Snider, an assistant professor in the College of Natural Science, have been at MSU studying “little animals.” More >>
