Something to crow about: In the past 50 years, approximately 225 new birds have been discovered, more than half of these from South America. Of these discoveries, Pamela Rasmussen, MSU integrative biologist, is tied for the third-highest total in the world with 10 – and is ranked first for birds discovered in Asia. 2. Research links impulsivity and binge eating: Do you get impulsive when you’re upset? If so, this could be putting you at risk for binge eating. According to Kelly Klump, professor of psychology at MSU and senior author, the more impulsive you are, the more likely it is you’ll binge eat when experiencing negative feelings. Helping faculty expand international research opportunities: Representatives from some of the world’s largest research funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, will be at MSU Wednesday and Thursday to advise faculty on how to expand their international research opportunities. 5. Online gambling would benefit from better regulation: The U.S. government’s attempt to crack down on Internet gambling is widely seen as a convoluted mess. Yet, more controlled and defined regulation would likely benefit the $41 billion industry and protect consumers alike, finds a new study by MSU business scholars. More >>
