Debate team clinches first place win at Miami tournament: The Michigan State University debate team came out No. 1 in a crowd of nearly 50 teams at the University of Miami debate tournament this week. International relations senior Jack Caporal and international relations senior Quinn Zemel bested teams from Emory University, the University of Michigan, Dartmouth College, Vanderbilt University, the University of Kentucky, Indiana University and Trinity University to win first place. 2. Honor's College student named Churchill Scholarship finalist: Michigan State University Honors College member David Zoltowski has been named a finalist for the Churchill Scholarship. Established in 1959, the Winston Churchill Foundation’s Scholarship Program offers 14 American students of exceptional ability and outstanding achievement the opportunity to pursue graduate degrees in engineering, mathematics or the sciences in Churchill College at the University of Cambridge in England. MSU earns 2015 Carnegie Community Engagement Classification: Michigan State University has earned the 2015 Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. MSU’s application was commended for documenting the nature and extent of engagement activities, including the alignment among campus mission, culture, leadership, resources and practices that support dynamic and noteworthy community engagement. 4. Never give up: I’ll admit it. I was not being a good Spartan. As everyone knows, the football team was down by 20 points in the fourth quarter of the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 1—and I had pretty much given up. I said to my husband, “Ugh. We are certainly not going to win this game. Oh well, we still had a good year. Baylor is a really good team.” Then he reminded me what being a true Spartan is all about. More >>

5. MSU's online education, nursing programs climb in national rankings: Michigan State University’s online master’s degree programs in education and nursing continue to climb in the national rankings. According to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Programs, released Wednesday, MSU’s online graduate programs in education came in at No. 13. That’s an improvement of five spots from last year and 10 spots from two years ago when it was No. 23. More>>
